The 2008 Massif has an intense deep bright purple/ruby red colour. The nose has plenty of licorice, ripe fruit cake & spicy/pepper aromas with attractive smoky oak. The juicy fruit palate exhibits typical Grampians Shiraz ripe plum & spice, medium to full in body finishing reasonably dry with nice grainy tannin texture. The fruit for the 2008 Massif Shiraz was grown at the Clayfield Moyston vineyard & another vineyard high up upon the rocky slope of Mount Ararat in Western Victoria. The vineyards have differing soil composition, plant vigour & water availability. Importantly both sites ripen ralatively late due to their altitude & cool climates which help maximise the colour & flavours. Vintage Comments The vintages from 2002 to 2009 have been influened by the long drought, during this period the grape quality has been exceptional with low yeilds. In the Grampians the climate is influenced by the nearby mountains, warm sunny days & cool night temperatures are perfect for consistent ripening & flavour development. The 2008 vintage builds on the quality from pervious vintages but provides more flavour & body.
